Galileo Galilei was born in Pisa in 1564. He created one of the first modern telescopes. Galileo revolutionised our understanding of the world successfully proving the earth revolved around the sun and not the other way around but, sometimes Galileo was far from being correct. During the time of Galileo, there weren't really "scientists" as we know them today. Much of Galileo’s work was withdrawn and banned by order of the Church. Towards the end of his life Galileo went blind. Yet even in his final few years he continued with his work. Galileo died January 8, 1642 in Tuscany, Italy. he was best know for improving the telescope to be used to study the planets and stars.
